Vermilion County has a new County Clerk. Robyn Heffron was sworn in July 1st by Circuit Judge Charles Hall. Robyn has 8 years of County Clerk experience and has worked up through the ranks from a starting clerk’s position to Deputy County Clerk and now, the County Clerk. A veteran of 11 contested elections, including two presidential elections, Robyn said she has been trained in every aspect of the office and is prepared to continue business with the retirement of Cathy Jenkins, her previous boss and mentor.
At the City Council meeting July 1st, the Mayor and Council approved a proclamation making July 1 Bob Iverson Day in the City of Danville. Bob Iverson was a long time City Alderman as well as a long time news director for WITY. Bob Iverson was an active community member and family man. His wife Judy and other family members were present at the meeting. At the same meeting there were a number of City appointments including Barry
Johnson for Ward 7 to replace the late Bob Iverson. Doug Ahrens, also of Ward seven made the motion to approve and it was unanimously approved.
In comments, the Mayor noted the passing of Reverend R.J. Davis, a former alderman who was part of the original seven alderman who sued to bring change to the composition of the City government some 38 years ago. That change was successful and is the basis for Danville City government today.
The tragic Winter Park shooting was a matter of discussion. 18 year old Aniyah J. Davis of Danville. Was the victim of that shooting. City officials stated that the investigation would continue until the perpetrators were found. A moment of silence was had for the victim. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Danville Police or Crime-stoppers.
