The Vermilion County Museum Society will be having a special Abe’s Anglers: Fishing with Lincoln event in partnership with Looking for Lincoln and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources on Saturday, September 12, 2026. This event will be held at Kickapoo State Park at Clear Pond near Kickapoo Adventures, from 10:00 AM to Noon (check in will start at 9:30). This is a FREE event for children ages 5-12. Pre-registration is required as there are limited spots for this event and children must have a parent or guardian stay with them for the duration of the event. All poles and needed supplies will be provided. To register, you may call the Museum during regular business hours (Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM) at 217-442-2922. The deadline for registration is Tuesday, September 8th.
Join the Vermilion Country Conservation District on Saturday, September 12th starting at 7am for their annual River to Rail ride! Enjoy scenic, low traffic routes across the Middle Fork River Valley. Cissna Park’s Shop the Park runs one final time this year on September 12th from 9am to 1pm. Hosted by the Cissna Park Development Board, this event helps feature local vendors, musicians, food, and people in a setting where you can enjoy the summer weather.
The Vermillion County Heritage Alliance invites you out to a Historical Marker Unveiling and Dedication Ceremony. Come on out to the Vermillion County Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 12th to witness the unveiling of the Piankashaw Memorial Marker. The unveiling program will include local officials, historians, and organization representatives. Reception will light refreshments will follow. The Vermilion County Conservation District’s Revolutionary War re-enactment makes camp at Forest Glen on Saturday, September 26th. Experience life at the front during the Revolutionary War re-enactment at Forest Glen. Travel back in time and explore a historic 18th century encampment along with the soldiers and civilians that supported them. See working cavalry, a period fashion show, kids’ games, and frontier cooking. The festivities continue with Pioneer Craft Day on Sunday, September 27th. Demonstrations include candle dipping, cider pressing, fry bread, and more! The battle will take place at 3:30 pm both days, and admission is free!
The Danville Women’s Care Clinic Walk For Life is scheduled for Saturday, October 17th at Lincoln Park in Danville. Come on out and walk at your own pace, enjoy the activities, and know you are making a difference. Check-in for the walk starts at 8:30am on the 17th, with the walk starting at 9am. CRIS Healthy Aging and the Illinois Department of Aging are looking for volunteers to help seniors navigate Medicare. They will provide free training to become certified as an Illinois SHIP counselor. Counselors educate consumers and answer questions about Medicare, supplements, and other insurance. They help organize and assist in filing for Medicare and Medicare claims. The Trep School is taking applications for Broadband Grants for businesses. Forty businesses located in Vermilion County can receive up to $500 each towards upgrading their internet service to fiber broadband or towards hosting their business website. The $20,000 in funds for the broadband grants were provided by the Vermilion County Board to Vermilion Advantage as matching funds for the Economic Empowerment Center grant Vermilion Advantage received from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Vermilion Advantage contracted The Trep School to provide the programming for the grant. To be eligible for the grants, business owners must live or have their business located in Vermilion County. Additionally, they must complete an IRS W-9, an application, and 360° Business Assessment and growth plan with The Trep School. Once eligibility has been determined, The Trep School and Vermilion Advantage will coordinate with the business owner to provide the funds directly to the vendor on the business’s behalf. The Danville Fire Department’s Free Smoke Alarm Program is free for residents within the City of Danville. This initiative is designed to help ensure every home is equipped with working smoke alarms, a critical component of fire safety and early detection. Through this program, Danville residents can request free smoke alarms and professional installation by trained personnel. The goal is to reduce fire-related injuries and fatalities by making homes safer and more prepared. Anyone interested in participating in the Free Smoke Alarm Program is encouraged to register through the department’s new Community Connect platform at www.communityconnect.io/info/il-danville or call the Danville Fire Department at 217-431-2350 to schedule their installation and provide important household information that can assist first responders in an emergency.
The Danville Library Foundation is excited to continue working with with Newell Township to bring Little Free Libraries to the community. Jim Wilson with Newell Township will be providing the Little Free Libraries, and the Danville Library Foundation has committed to filling them with books for the community. The two organizations felt this outreach project worked to support the community in promoting literacy and engagement by making books accessible to all. These Little Free Libraries will function in the way of “Take a Book, Leave a Book.” Be sure to keep an eye out and visit the Little Free Library in your area!
