This first day to file for placement on the election ballot for the March 17, 2026, Primary is today. Many candidates will be seeking the first place on the ballot and will try to be first in line at 8 AM at the County Clerk’s Office. Sometimes, a lottery is required to determine ballot placements for candidates who arrive at the same time. We will provide an update as soon as possible. Open offices include the County Treasurer, County Sheriff, Regional Office of Education, County Clerk, Supervisor of Assessments, and various County Board seats.
The line to file for the March 17th primary filed two benches outside the County Clerk’s Office this morning. One candidate, the current Treasurer had another person file for him and was not present, but many were lined up waiting to file this morning.
So far after the 8 AM filing today we have at least two contested races, the County Treasurer and the County Sheriff both are now contested offices. Incumbent Darrin Duncan and challenger Jason Whaling, have both filed in the Republican Primary. Also, Michael Hartshorn, Chief Investigator for the County Sheriff’s Department, and John Thompson, current 911 Director, both have filed for the Sheriff’s position given the announcement that Sheriff Hartshorn will not seek re-election. We will follow up with full details on today’s filings tomorrow.
