The Vermilion County State’s Attorney sent a media release as follows without many details: “Earlier today, my office received information regarding allegations of official
misconduct and bribery. Those allegations involve Vermilion Advantage, Vermilion County Elected Officials and the Vermilion County Board. I have referred all of the information that I have been provided to the Illinois State Police Special Investigations Unit. The Special Investigations Unit within the Division of Criminal Investigation is a small group of specially trained and seasoned special agents who have statewide jurisdiction and handle a wide range of criminal investigations, including allegations of criminal wrongdoing by elected officials or criminal acts perpetrated by appointees of a government body at the state and local levels. Cases are referred to the Special Investigations Unit by local agencies, prosecutors, and other public officials. If anyone has additional information about this investigation, please contact the Illinois State Police Special Investigations Unit at ISP.Public.Corruption@illinois. gov. When reporting information please include Vermilion County in the subject line.”
A social media news source, Vermilion County Watchdogs, has also posted pictures of a letter from Vermilion Advantage Executive Director Mike Marron referring to a concern about Vermilion County’s handling of the tax trustee program and tendering a resignation for that and other reasons. We will provide details as they become available on this issue.
