The Danville Public Library is excited to announce the hiring of Christopher Leggins as its new Library Director. Leggins, 30, brings a strong commitment to community engagement and a fresh vision for the library’s future. Leggins has served as an overnight circulation supervisor and stacks maintenance manager at Illinois State’s Milner Library for nearly three years and worked part-time at the Normal Public Library. A first-time director, Leggins expressed enthusiasm about his new role. He is excited to serve the Danville community and looks forward to listening to residents and learning what they want from their library. As Library Director, Christopher said he wants to lead it as a hub of knowledge, creativity, and connection.
“I envision a library that embraces innovation, champions inclusivity, and evolves with the changing needs of our patrons, providing access not just to information, but to opportunity.” When asked why Leggins chose this profession, he shared, “…librarians contribute to a well of knowledge and resources that benefit entire communities, including people like me. I discovered an unintentional but undeniable connection between libraries and myself and decided to keep pouring into that well." As Library Director, Leggins will work closely with the Danville Library Foundation. Executive Director, Natalie Duncan, extended a warm welcome, saying, “We look forward to supporting his vision and continuing the strong partnership between the Library and the Foundation as we work together to enhance library services and enrich our community.” The Danville Public Library Board of Trustees shared their excitement about Christopher’s appointment. Board President, Mark Denman, said, “Besides his solid credentials and experience, his patron-centered philosophy, commitment to community outreach, and confident leadership make him an ideal choice to serve as the director of the Danville Public Library.” The community is invited to meet Christopher at an upcoming event on October 6th, from 4:00–6:00 PM at the Danville Public Library. This welcoming event will include refreshments and an opportunity to connect with Christopher
personally. For more information about the Danville Public Library and its mission, please visit https://danvillepubliclibrary.org/mission-history/
