A new candidate has announced that they are running for Vermilion County Treasurer next election, Jason Whaling of Oakwood. According to Whaling, he plans to modernize how Vermilion County manages its finances. He aims to diversify county investments, safeguard public funds, and bring greater transparency to financial reporting. “Taxpayers deserve to know where their money is going and to trust that it’s being handled responsibly,” Whaling said. “I’ll work to ensure Vermilion County’s finances are stable, secure, and well-managed.” Since moving to Vermilion County in 2013, Whaling has been deeply involved in local service and leadership. He is a two-term president of the Danville Sunrise Rotary Club and vice president of the Habitat for Humanity of Danville Executive Board. He also serves on the Finance Committee of Crosspoint Human Services, helping guide the organization’s financial stability. In addition, Whaling has held numerous leadership roles with Scouting America, including Den Leader, Troop Committee Chair, District Chair, and member of the council executive committee. He was honored with the BSA District Award of Merit for his service.
