Public schools in Illinois will soon offer universal mental health screenings to students. This comes after Governor J-B Pritzker signed the bill into law today. Capitol News Illinois reports students in grades three through twelve can be screened at least once a year, beginning in the 2027 school year.
The age-appropriate tests are a way to identify kids who are struggling with their mental health and get them help. Parents will be able to opt out of screenings if they don’t want their children to take them.
