On August 1, 2025, at approximately 12:36 AM, an officer with the Danville Police Department observed a vehicle driving on the roadway with no headlights illuminated in the area of Fairchild Street and Griffin Street. The officer also observed that the vehicle did not come to a complete stop before proceeding through the intersection. A traffic stop was initiated near the intersection of Griffin Street and Knox Drive, and the vehicle came to a stop. The driver lost control of the vehicle going over train tracks near the intersection of Williams Street and Short Street and subsequently crashed.
Two occupants ran from the car and were apprehended a short time later. One suspect was identified as 28-year-old Carvell Thomas from Gary, IN. The other suspect was a 15-year-old juvenile from Chicago, IL. After being cleared by medical staff, Thomas was booked into the Vermilion County Jail on the preliminary charges of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Criminal Damage to Property over $500, and Obstructing/Resisting a Peace Officer.
The 15-year-old juvenile was booked on the preliminary charge of Obstructing/Resisting a Peace Officer and was later released to a family member.
