At the Tilton Village Council meeting last night, June 19, several expenditures to improve public safety such as a squad car set up with a camera system, light bar, and computer, were discussed and approved. The Village also approved an intergovernmental agreement with Danville Township for mosquito abatement. An ordinance to control spending limits was approved with purchases at or below $5,000 to be approved by the Mayor, and anything above $5,ooo to be approved by the Council. There was a discussion about limiting the number of days a resident can operate a garage sale and that will be referred back to the Ordinance Committee for further discussion.
The Council approved a donation to the Vermilion County 200 Anniversary Celebration at $1,000 which will also help celebrate the Tilton community’s part in Vermilion County as well.
Mayor Billy Wear commented that he had contacted UPS about donating the building to Tilton, but was told the building would be placed on the market with an approximate price tag of $300,000. The Mayor also commented that he and Vermilion Advantage had been in discussions with business about locating in Tilton and reconvening the Mayor’s Council on a regular basis.
At the Public Comment section of the meeting, two persons presented concerns about the possible solar farm on Catlin-Tilton Road. While that project has not yet been presented to the County or any municipal government with jurisdiction, residents were concerned about the effect of the large solar project. Once officially presented, the project will have to undergo scrutiny by the controlling jurisdiction.
