From the Tilton Fire Department:
On 10/08/2026 at 0939 hours, Tilton Fire was dispatched to 508 W. Ross Lane (Lebanon Chemical) for a confirmed chemical explosion and commercial structure fire. 12 Engine 3 responded under four minutes.
Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke conditions and sprinkler activation. Crews made entry and extinguished the fire inside the chemical room. The fire was contained to the chemical room with the assistance of the building’s sprinkler system. No hazardous materials were released from the building.
The fire was brought under control within approximately 10 minutes. There were no civilian, employee, or firefighter injuries reported, and no inhalation injuries occurred.
A brief evacuation of nearby residences was conducted as a precaution.
The suspected cause of the incident was a malfunctioning drum band heater. The heater is believed to have overheated a chemical barrel, causing the barrel to BLEVE, which subsequently led to the fire.
Tilton Fire would like to extend a big thank you to all mutual-aid departments that assisted with the incident. We also thank all assisting police departments for their help with evacuations and Tilton Public Works for assisting with road closures and blocking roads around the scene.
We appreciate the cooperation and assistance of all agencies involved in helping bring this incident under control safely and efficiently.
