
Gun shots were heard in an armed robbery but our Danville Police Department responded quickly and the perpetrator was arrested. At a detention hearing Monday, June 8th, to determine his status, pre-trial release was DENIED by Judge Wall and Gino Lopez will remain in jail. The original Danville Police summary of the event is below:
On June 3, 2026, at approximately 5:26 a.m., officers with the Danville Police Department
responded to The Oasis, located at 510 N. Gilbert Street, regarding a 9-1-1 investigation. Dispatchers
received a call in which the caller repeatedly provided the business address before disconnecting.
Upon arrival, officers learned that a male subject had entered the store, displayed a handgun,
and demanded money from an employee. During the incident, the suspect fired multiple rounds at the
employee as the employee fled from behind the counter. No injuries were reported.
Through the course of the investigation, officers developed information that led them to a
residence in the 600 block of Harmon Street. Danville Police officers and detectives, assisted by the
Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department, established a perimeter around the residence.
The Danville Police Department Emergency Response Unit responded to the scene and issued
verbal commands for the suspect to exit the residence. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Gino T.
Lopez of Danville, complied and surrendered without further incident.
Lopez was taken into custody and preliminarily booked on charges of Armed Robbery and
Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.
