The Historic Fischer Theatre also announced it has been awarded a $280,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) to support major backstage renovations. This vital funding will allow for the full restoration of the basement area beneath the theatre’s stage, originally designed to house dressing rooms and green rooms, returning it to its intended use and significantly enhancing the theatre’s capacity to welcome touring performers. The Fischer Theatre, originally opened in 1884 and beautifully restored in recent years, continues to serve as a cultural anchor in downtown Danville. Previous director Jason Rome and others were also instrumental in the grant, including the late Senator Scott Bennett. This new investment ensures it can continue to grow its programming, attract high caliber talent, and preserve its historic integrity for generations to come.
