Three Kings of Peace Mentoring Center administrators and staff completed training and earned certifications to enhance the mentoring that the Center provides free of charge for young people. Charles Burns Jr. led the instruction based on his landmark book, A Guide to Light the Way to Mentorship. The Chicago-based Burns is a Mason of the highest order (33-degree) and a Sovereign Grand Inspector General. His program helps mentors learn how to design effective mentoring programs, provide outreach to prospective mentees, and develop a system for continuous improvement and follow up.
Among the Three Kings of Peace volunteers who received Mr. Burns’ training were Three Kings of Peace Mentoring Center Director
Frank McCullough, Danville NAACP President Edward J. Butler, and Three Kings of Peace Member Keith Groves. For more than a decade, the Three Kings of Peace has been a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with a mission of reducing crime and violence in Danville. As advocates for safety and security, they venture into socioeconomically challenged neighborhoods to offer young people a pathway to a better life through education and meaningful employment. The 3 Kings of Peace Mentoring Center is located at 302 W. Roselawn Street. The Mentoring Center hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., weekdays. The Center also offers fitness classes, including basketball, soccer, pickleball, and weightlifting. The Center is nonsectarian and
welcomes all youth, regardless of their religious beliefs.
