The former CEO of electric utility Commonwealth Edison has been sentenced to two years in prison for her role in bribing ex-Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan. Capitol News Illinois reports Anne Pramaggiore (prah-muh-JORE-ay), was convicted in 2023 along with three other former ComEd executives and lobbyists. A jury found they gave jobs and contracts to Madigan allies in an effort to grease the wheels for legislation backed by the utility.
Though a federal judge earlier this year threw out most of the bribery counts in the case, Pramaggiore’s sentence is based on guilty verdicts for charges of falsifying ComEd’s internal records and an overarching conspiracy charge. During this (MONDAY) morning’s hearing, Pramaggiore declined to make a statement to the judge, but through a spokesperson after court, reiterated her claim of innocence and vowed to appeal. The former speaker was convicted on related corruption counts in February, and sentenced last month to seven-and-a-half years in prison.
