State Comptroller Susana Mendoza is not running for reelection. Capitol News Illinois reports the woman who oversaw state finances in
the wake of Illinois’ budget impasse a decade ago and through the COVID-19 pandemic is stepping down to consider what’s next for her political future. Mendoza is widely viewed as a potential candidate for Chicago mayor in 2027. While she didn’t commit to a run, she is quote “leaving the
door open” State Representative Margaret Croke, Lake County Treasurer Holly Kim and state senator Javier Cervantes could mount bids to replace Mendoza.
