A Danville Police Officer witnessed a stolen vehicle in the 100 block of N. Bowman Ave. on Sunday, 6/15/2025, around 8:00 p.m. The officer stopped the vehicle in a local business parking lot. After the driver initially stopped and made contact with the officer, he decided to flee by driving away at a high rate of speed. With the assistance of community members who witnessed the erratic driving of the truck, DPD patrol officers eventually re-located the stolen vehicle, parked in the 600 block of Dearborn Street, unoccupied. After further witness assistance provided information on the direction that the driver ran on foot, a Danville Police Department K9 unit was called to the scene. The DPD K9 tracked the suspect for about 4 blocks. The K9 located the suspect hiding in some heavy brush. The suspect was arrested and identified as 42-year-old Alejandro Cardoza of Danville. Officers transported Cardoza to the Vermilion County Jail, where he was charged and booked for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Driving with a Suspended License, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Obstructing/Resisting a Peace Officer, and Criminal Damage to Property. The Danville Police Department reminds the public that all subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
