The Vermilion County Property Committee met on June 16th. Committee Chair Mark Steinbaugh called the meeting to order at 5 PM. The committee approved an amended excess property ordinance at the request of Auditor Erika Ramsey. The Auditor’s Office has recently taken over the inventory for County Property and requested an update of the ordinance controlling property acquisition and disposal. The ordinance was last amended in 2017. The goal said Auditor Erika Ramsey is to keep the property list current for both outside auditing purposes and for internal insurance costs. Items under $250 dollars deemed excess property by a department head may be disposed of without formal action beyond letting the Auditor know. Items over that amount require formal action.
The Committee also discussed the Administrative Building or Cannon Building’s elevator. The elevator was installed by the Federal Government and came with the building when acquired by the County. It is now in need of an update. Reifstack, Wakefield, and Fanning, an architectural and engineering firm. Will help the County in preparing bid specifications for the update. The engineering opinion of cost is $702,806. A request for
bids will need to be developed before the work is let. The Courthouse is in need of tuck pointing to prevent water damage. Bid specifications
will need to be developed and published before the work is let. Earlier, the County Administration Building, or the Cannon Building, was thought to need emergency action for tuck pointing. After review, it seems the roof filtering tools were preventing proper drsinage and there is no longer an emergency. Further examination will be made before determining what sort of work is required.
