The Vermilion County Coroner, Jane McFadden stated that a hit and run accident that occurred early Sunday morning, June 8, 2025 on West 7th Street in Tilton, just before 2 a.m. claimed the life of a 44-year-old Tilton, Illinois man. The victim has been identified as Mitchell Leon Burks, Jr.
Mr. Burks’ family was notified and an autopsy was scheduled for Monday. The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Office, the Illinois State Police, and the Vermilion County Coroner’s office continue to investigate. Sheriff Department records indicate that Andre M. Sanders with a listed address in
Danville, Illinois, age 36, was booked and preliminarily charged with Leaving the Scene of An Accident involving injury or death. Sanders was arrested on June 8, at 2:00 PM. All persons charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
