On Monday June 2 at the County Building the Finance Committee met. A budget amendment for the Regional Superintendent’s Office was passed to allow the use of State funds to supplement staff salaries and will go the the full board. Such a stipend is a regular, but not guaranteed addition to the budget each year. There was an accounting and discussion of ARPA funds and the interest on such funds. Many communities received funding through ARPA or the interest earned on ARPA funds. All ARPA funds must be spent by 2026. In other discussions, the Committee was advised that progress on the EMA building demolition was unacceptable and action would shortly be taken to resolve the delay on completion of the demolition. The County is studying regular shredding procedures after the debacle at the Annex Building with taxpayer documents being found floating around the area that should have been destroyed. Finally, there is an emergency need for tuckpointing at the Cannon Building, the County Administrative Offices. The Cannon Building has been the subject of repeated tuckpointing in the past. A non-emergency tuckpointing issue has also been identified at the Courthouse. Both projects will help prevent water damage.
