For decades, Bob Iverson has been a trusted voice to report the news in the Danville area, both as a longtime newspaper reporter for the Commercial News, and for the past 20 years, as news director here at WITY. Whenever he wasn’t contributing to reporting the news, he was help making it, most recently as the Ward 7 Alderman serving with the Danville City Council. Iverson passed away Thursday after a brief illness. Mayor Rickey Williams Jr., whom Bob served as Vice-Mayor for during his recent term on City Council, remembers Bob in multiple capacities as being kind, fair, and passionate about Danville.
Bob was a Chicago sports fan, most notably the Cubs, but his love of sports was perhaps only superseded by his love of family, faith, and community, Bob was a spirited member of the First Presbyterian Church of Danville, to which he also served. Bob is survived by his wife, Judy, Daughters Anne and Amy, son-in-law Jason, grandson Keaton, along with three siblings and their respective families. He was our friend, our neighbor, our colleague, and at times, our foil…to consider both sides of an issue, knowing that the decisions made by the few make an impact on so many, sharing the stories of the area that he loved, that he served, and that he invested his time into and he will be dearly missed. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will
be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 30th at First Presbyterian Church, 100 North Franklin Street in Danville. Rev. Macy Ruple will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29th 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 3940 North Vermilion Street in
Danville. Memorials may be made in Bob’s memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Danville. Bob Iverson was 74 years of age.
