The Danville City Council Tuesday approved the budget for the upcoming year despite reservations from some aldermen. A motion to table the budget until aldermen have a chance to study a wage compensation plan was defeated. Five council members were in favor of tabling the budget until February. The city had a firm do a compensation study to establish wage levels for all city jobs. Some council members felt they had not had enough time to review the plan before voting for the budget. Mayor Rickey Williams says the budget that was approved is a good one.
Williams said the wage study came later than anticipated and did not allow much time for studying it.
The budget is about 66 million dollars and goes into effect May 1, 2024. The council also approved the tax levy for the upcoming year. It is the same rate as last year. The group also approved establishing tax levies for some special programs and abating some levies for other organizations.
