MLK scholarship deadline near as plans for celebration advance

Planning is underway for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration in Danville.  The Committee is now accepting applications for the MLK Scholarship. To be eligible for the $4000 scholarship, you must be a 2024 high school graduating senior at a local high school who plans to pursue his/her education at an institution of higher learning. Applications are available at the local high schools and the City of Danville Human Relations Department. The selection of the scholarship recipient by the MLK Committee is not based on any racial, religious, ethnic or cultural affiliation. All scholarship applications must be submitted to the City of Danville Human Relations Department by 4:30 p.m., Friday, December 8. The recipient will be announced at the MLK Community Celebration in January.

Sandra Finch said the MLK Jr. Celebration is not having a banquet again in January, due to covid cases on the rise. There will be the annual service were Mary Thompson, former committee chairwoman, will be honored.

 

The service will be on Monday, Jan. 15, at St. James United Methodist Church. For additional information, please contact Sandra Finch at 217-431-2280.
