The local unemployment rate increased last month, yet there was an increase in the number of people with a job.

The October jobless rate in Champaign County was 4.2 percent, compared to 3.5 percent last year. Unemployment in Vermilion County stood at 5.7 percent, compared to 4.6 percent in 2022. The unemployment rate in the City of Danville is 7.1 percent. It was 5.5 percent in 2022. In the city of Urbana, the rate stands at 4.6 percent, compared to 3.9 percent last year. The City of Champaign has a rate of 4.4 percent. It was 3.5 percent last year.

However, the number of people with jobs increased by 13 hundred in Champaign since October of 2022. The number of jobs increased by more than 800 in Vermilion County in the past year.
