Arrest made for firearms violation

On Sunday evening 11/19/23 at approximately 11:15 p.m., Danville Police Officers responded to
the 100 block of South State Street to investigate the report of a male subject shooting a firearm in that
area. Through their investigation, officers identified the suspect shooting the firearm as 42-year-old
Matthew S. Hill. Officers knew Hill to be inside a residence in that area, and upon attempts to make
contact with him, he refused to exit the residence.
A search warrant was granted for the residence and the Danville Police Department Emergency
Response Unit responded to assist. Hill was eventually taken into custody by ERU members. Hill is
currently being held at the Public Safety Building on initial charges of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon.
Members of the public are reminded that a complaint is merely an accusation; the defendant is
presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
The investigation into this incident continues and no other information is being released at this
time.
Anyone who has information regarding this incident is asked to call Danville Police at (217)
431-2250. Or you can call Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at (217) 446-TIPS
