Danville is developing projects to increase the cooperation among governmental agencies. Danville is planning to apply for a grant that would fund a coalition with the city, Vermilion County and Vermilion Advantage. If the 1.5 million dollar grant is approved by the US EPA it would go toward the identification, remediation, and redevelopment of land complicated by the presence of hazardous substances and/or petroleum.
City Engineer Sam Cole said a coalition can apply for much more money than an independent agency. The City of Danville would be the lead agency and be responsible for grant administration.
Danville is also hoping to expand its Enterprise zone to include part of Tilton. The Village of Tilton requested the expansion so that it can help Tilton with community development. The Enterprise Zone gives tax incentives to developing businesses. The Tilton zone would have to meet all of the provisions of the Enterprise Zone in Danville. The full city council will act on the cooperative agreements next week.
