Danville’s Public Works Committee has approved a contact of more than 87 thousand dollars for environmental services. The company hired will provide services throughout the cleanup process of a lot at the corner of Fairchild and Vermilion. The city is hoping to develop the area, but first needs to clean up contamination left by a former dry cleaner.
Funding for the project will come from the grant of more than 983 thousand dollars Danville received from the United States Environmental Protection Agency
The committee also approved increasing the budget for sealing cracks in city streets by some 85 thousand dollars. City engineer Sam Cole said the fund increase is due to modification in the original plan, and also because the city has had to spend more effort to remove excessive growth of vegetation in the roadways. The committee action come to the full city council next week.
