Danville has received a grant that will help improve homes. Community Development Administrator Logan Cronk told the Public Works Committee the good news.
The health and safety issues could include electrical, plumbing or roof repairs. All city and state building guidelines will have to be followed.
The city had applied for the grant from the Illinois Housing and Development Authority several months ago. Cronk has not received all of the grant details and is not yet accepting applications for the work. He already has a waiting list of homeowners who have requested help in another program and some of these homes can be funded. The city will have more than 2 years to spend the money.
Officials hope that these repairs can help keep houses from becoming substandard and will keep people in a good home.
